System Device Drivers are literally the bits of software that interface or drive the hardware. These interfaces allow the operating system to use and communicate using data streams and hardware buses, interrupts and threads. In short your hardware just will not function correctly if you have any issues with device drivers. I have listed all the reported driver faults at the bottom of the page with some information on what the hardware driver errors mean and how to fix them.

System code error 1 This hardware is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To update the device drivers for this hardware, click Update Driver. If that doesn't work, see your hardware documentation for more information.
System code error 2 Microsoft Windows could not load the driver for this hardware because the computer is reporting two <type> bus types. (Code 2)
Contact your computer manufacturer to get an updated BIOS for your computer.
System code error 3 The driver for this hardware may be bad, or your system may be running low on memory or other resources. (Code 3)
System code error 4 This hardware is not working properly because one of its device drivers may be bad, or your registry may be bad. (Code 4)
To Update the device drivers for this hardware, click Update Driver. If that doesn't work, run Scanregw.exe
System code error 5 The driver for this hardware requested a resource that Microsoft Windows does not know how to handle. (Code 5).
To fix this, click Update Driver to update the driver for this hardware.
System code error 6 Another hardware is using the resources this hardware needs. (Code 6).
To fix this, shut down your computer, turn it off, and then change the resources for this hardware. When you have finished, start hardware Manager and change the resource settings for this hardware.
System code error 7 The device drivers for this hardware need to be reinstalled.
(Code 7) To reinstall the device drivers for this hardware, click Reinstall Driver.
System code error 8 This hardware is not working properly because Microsoft Windows cannot load the file <name> that loads the device drivers for the hardware. (Code 8).
To fix this problem, run Microsoft Windows Setup again using your Microsoft Windows CD-ROM.
System code error 9 This hardware is not working properly because the BIOS in your computer is reporting the resources for the hardware incorrectly. (Code 9).
Contact your computer manufacturer to get an updated BIOS for your computer
System code error 10 This hardware is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the device drivers installed (Code 10).
Try upgrading the hardware device drivers for this hardware.
System code error 11 Microsoft Windows stopped responding while attempting to start this hardware, and therefore will never attempt to start this hardware again (Code 11).

System code error 12 This hardware cannot find any free resources to use (Code 12).
If you want to use this hardware, you must disable another hardware that is using the resources this hardware needs. To do this, click Hardware Trouble-shooter and follow the instructions in the wizard.
System code error 13 This hardware is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the device drivers installed.
(Code 13) To have Microsoft Windows detect whether this hardware is present or not, click Detect Hardware.
System code error 14 This hardware cannot work properly until you restart your computer (Code 14).
To restart your computer now, click Restart Computer.
System code error 15 This hardware is causing a resource conflict (Code 15).
To resolve the conflict, click Hardware Trouble-shooter and follow the instructions in the wizard.
System code error 16 Microsoft Windows could not identify all the resources this hardware uses (Code 16).
To specify additional resources for this hardware, click the Resources tab and fill in the missing settings. Check your hardware documentation to find out what settings to use.
System code error 17 The driver information file <name> is telling this child hardware to use a resource that the parent hardware does not have or recognize (Code 17).
To fix this, click Update Driver to update the device drivers for this hardware.
System code error 18 The device drivers for this hardware need to be reinstalled (Code 18).
To reinstall the device drivers for this hardware, click Reinstall Driver.
System code error 19 Your registry may be bad. (Code 19).
To check your registry, click Check Registry. If the registry is bad, Microsoft Windows will restart your system and go back to a previous registry that is good.
System code error 20 Microsoft Windows could not load one of the device drivers for this hardware. (Code 20).
To fix this, click Update Driver to update the device drivers for this hardware.
System code error 21 Microsoft Windows is removing this hardware (Code 21).
Close this dialog box, and then wait a few seconds. If this problem continues, restart your computer.
System code error 22 This hardware is disabled (Code 22).
Click Enable hardware. This hardware is not started. (Code 22) Click Start hardware. This hardware is disabled. (Code 22) You can't enable this hardware because it has been disabled by a Microsoft Windows driver.

System code error 28 The device drivers for this hardware are not installed (Code 28).
To reinstall the device drivers for this hardware, click Reinstall Driver.
System code error 29 This hardware is disabled because the BIOS for the hardware did not give it any resources (Code 29).
You must enable the hardware in the BIOS. See your hardware documentation for details, or contact your computer manufacturer to get an updated BIOS.
System code error 30 This hardware is using an Interrupt Request (IRQ) resource that is in use by another hardware and cannot be shared (Code 30).
You must change the conflicting setting or remove the real-mode driver causing the conflict
System code error 31 This hardware is not working properly because <hardware> is not working properly (Code 31).
View the properties and see why it is not working, click Properties.
System code error 32 Microsoft Windows cannot install the device drivers for this hardware because it cannot access the drive or network location that has the setup files on it (Code 32).
To fix this problem, click Restart Computer to restart your computer.
System code error 33 This hardware isn't responding to its driver (Code 33)
For more information, contact your hardware vendor.
System code error 34 Microsoft Windows cannot determine the settings for this hardware (Code 34).
Consult the documentation that came with this hardware and use the Resource tab to set the configuration
System code error 35 Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this hardware (Code 35)
To use this hardware, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update
System code error 36 This hardware is requesting a PCI interrupt but is configured for an ISA interrupt (Code 36).
Please use the computer's system setup program to reconfigure the interrupt for this hardware.
System code error 37 Microsoft Windows cannot initialize the hardware driver for this hardware (Code 37).
System code error 38 Microsoft Windows cannot load the hardware driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the hardware driver is still in memory. (Code 38).
System code error 39 Microsoft Windows cannot load the hardware driver for this hardware (Code 39) The driver may be corrupted or missing
System code error 40 Microsoft Windows cannot access this hardware because its service key information in the registry is missing or recorded incorrectly. (Code 40).
System code error 41 Microsoft Windows successfully loaded the hardware driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware hardware (Code 41).
System code error 42 Microsoft Windows cannot load the hardware driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate hardware already running in the system. (Code 42).
System code error 43 Microsoft Windows has stopped this hardware because it has reported problems (Code 43).
System code error 44 An application or service has shut down this hardware hardware (Code 44).
System code error 45 Currently, this hardware hardware is not connected to the computer (Code 45).
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware hardware to the computer.
System code error 46 Microsoft Windows cannot gain access to this hardware hardware because the operating system is in the process of shutting down (Code 46).
The hardware hardware should work correctly next time you start your computer.
System code error 47 Microsoft Windows cannot use this hardware hardware because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer (Code 47).
To fix this problem, unplug this hardware from your computer and then plug it in again.
System code error 48 The software for this hardware has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Microsoft Windows (Code 48).
Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver.
System code error 49 Microsoft Windows cannot start new hardware hardwares because the system hive is too large and exceeds the Registry Size Limit (Code 49).
To fix this problem, you should first try uninstalling any hardware hardwares that you are no longer using. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you will have to reinstall Microsoft Windows.
